Needle roller bearings are named for their thin cylindrical rollers or “needle rollers”. Needle roller bearings are usually designated as designs with low section height and relatively high load carrying capacity. These bearings can achieve a smaller and lighter design. In this design, the capacity and space limit the spherical or spherical bearings, and the speed or friction precludes the use of bushings. Needle roller bearings can withstand high loads related to their size because they utilize linear contact to spread the load over the entire length of the roller.

Drawn cup needle roller bearings
Drawn cup needle roller bearings are complete bearing units, consisting of thin-walled, drawn cup and needle rollers, and can provide full complement or cage components. Cage bearings use fewer rollers and reduce friction, so they can withstand higher speeds. Since full needle rollers use more needles than cage needle rollers, they are ideal for lower speeds and higher loads.

Drawn cup roller clutchs
Drawn cup roller clutch is similar in design to the drawn cup needle roller bearing. It transmits torque between the shaft and the bearing seat in one direction and allows free overrun in the opposite direction. The individual spring retention force of the needle roller ensures constant contact between the shaft, needle roller and ramp. The application is usually described as indexing, supporting or running beyond limits.

Heavy-duty needle roller bearings
When the application requires high static, dynamic or shock loads, heavy-duty needle rollers are the ideal choice. Machined or heavy-duty needle rollers are bearings with a low section height and a strong machined outer ring. The strong outer ring provides high rigidity and enables the bearing to withstand greater loads than drawn outer ring needle roller bearings.

Needle roller thrust bearings
When a higher axial load capacity is required and the housing space is minimal, needle roller thrust bearings can be selected. These bearings consist of stamped or machined cages and rollers. The cage holding the roller is paired with a thrust washer used as a raceway. When the surfaces of adjacent machine components can be used as raceways, thrust bearings can be used instead of thrust washers, thereby making the machine more compact.
